Former Manchester star to visit Randfontein

Quinton Fortune scheduled to inspire pupils of Randfontein Secondary School next week.

Kansai Paint, the global paint partner of Manchester United, is committed to support and improve education.

As part of the company’s corporate social investment programme, four schools have been selected from the various areas in South Africa in which Kansai Plascon’s factories operate.

Kansai Plascon’s Luipaardsvlei factory in Krugersdorp has chosen to assist Randfontein Secondary School in Toekomsrus by painting and renovating the buildings, and supporting the school’s soccer team. To do this, Kansai Plascon has enlisted the help of Manchester United soccer legend Quinton Fortune.

Fortune came from humble beginnings, growing up in the Cape Flats before he leaving South Africa as teenager to pursue his soccer dreams. After making the choice to change his circumstances Fortune has become a role model to South Africa’s youth.

Kansai Plascon and Fortune will visit Randfontein Secondary School on 28 July to run a training clinic with the school’s soccer team, and motivate and inspire the school’s pupils to excel in their studies and to make the right life choices.

Randfontein Secondary School is located in Toekomsrus, where its pupils battle with social issues. Despite these challenges, the school has worked hard to increase the thee Grade 12 passing rate; this all thanks to the involvement of a strong governing body, a dedicated principal, motivated teachers and the help of the surrounding community.

Kansai Plascon supplied paint to Toekomsrus Primary School, Randfontein Secondary School’s feeder school, some five years ago in order to revamp the facilities. Since then, the primary school’s pass rate has been 100 per cent, so Randfontein Secondary School was the natural choice to support, in order to boost the morale of local pupils throughout their education.

Kansai Plascon already has started repainting Randfontein Secondary School and has redone one of the toilet blocks completely.

Their involvement also triggered further support from the Department of Education, which has undertaken construction work to upgrade the ‘temporary’ board classrooms to face brick structures. Kansai Plascon continues to be involved and aims to complete all painting by the end of 2015.

Randfontein Secondary School has a vegetable garden as part of a feeding scheme for disadvantaged community members. To further support the school and to supplement the feeding scheme, Kansai Plascon employees will plant fruit trees in the vegetable garden as part of the company’s Mandela Day activities.
