Drugs hopefully soon something of the past in Toekomsrus

“We will not rest until we nip this drug problem in the bud.”

Parents Against Drug Abuse (Pada) – a non-profit organisation – is confident that they have taken a big step in the fight against drugs following another successful anti-drug campaign.

Members also vowed to increase their presence and will continue to fight against drugs dealers. The campaign was held on Saturday 5 July at the Toekomsrus Secondary School since drugs are said to be a problem in the community.

According to one of the organisers of the event who wishes not to be named for fear of being targeted by local drug dealers, “This is one of their many events aimed at eradicating destructive elements within their society and educating the youth about the dangers of using drugs.

“The abuse of drugs and other substances still remains a problem in our society and we will not rest until we nip this drug problem in the bud. We cannot continue to lose our children and our family members to drug dealers who are in the business to make a quick buck irrespective of how many lives they destroy,” the person said.

“We are saying enough is enough and we are taking back our streets,” she added.

She said that although they have not won their battle against the illegal trade, there is progress in terms of drug users seeking help and young people abstaining from using drugs.

According to her, Pada also is focusing on forming support groups for family and friends of drug users who are affected by this and embarks on its campaigns regularly to keep the youth busy and off the streets.
