Cable theft hits Carryou ministry

It is suspected that thieves dug up the cables from underground and left the farmers in the dark.

Cable theft has hit Carryou Ministry‘s farming initiative in Vleikop after 16 metres of their electricity cables were stolen recently.

This is the fifth time this year that cable theft has caused problems in this area so far this year.

According to Stephen Ngakane who is a caretaker at the farming facility, he and other workers were set to start installing tunnels for the ministry’s food garden when they made the shocking discovery.

“I don’t know exactly how this happened but we suspect that the thieves switched off our power supply at the main box prior to digging up the cables from underground.

“This is a serious setback and it is happening for the fifth time this year alone.”

Ngakane is adamant that even though it caused a delay, it did not prevent them from completing their project.

“We had to rent a generator to continue with our installations.

“We have children to feed and we cannot be stopped by such things,” says Ngakane.
