Local pastor and congregation attacked

One of the church goers was stabbed in the face with a pair of scissors.

A local pastor and his congregation were attacked and one of them stabbed in the face at the Word Alive Ministries in Randfontein

The incident occurred on Tuesday evening when three men barged into the church during a service and interrupted the proceedings.

The Herald has spoken to one of the churchgoers who explains the gruesome experience

According to local resident Louisa Gubanxa, her son was at church when the incident occurred and was a victim of the stabbing.

“My son tells me that they were in the middle of a sermon when the suspects walked in and started disturbing the proceedings.

“The pastor tried to stop them from doing this and that’s when one of them got violent.

“He produced a pair of scissors and slashed the pastor on the head,” says the woman

She adds that the suspect then turned around and stabbed her son, who had come to the pastor’s aid, in the face.

Owing to the injuries sustained, he had to be taken to a nearby hospital where his wounds were stitched.

It currently remains unclear as to what sparked the attack.

The Herald has spoken to Randfontein SAPS spokesperson Appel Ernst who confirms the incident and says that investigations are currently underway.

“I can confirm that the incident took place and it appears that the suspects broke the church’s door to gain entry.

“They were apparently under the influence of alcohol and were wielding beer bottles,” says Ernst.
