Police officer dies in horrible crash

The officer was involved in a head on collision and was trapped inside his car.

A 42-year-old police officer has died after he was involved in a massive head-on collision on the R559.

According to Randfontein SAPS spokesperson Appel Ernst, the officer was traveling to work when the incident occurred.

“We were called to the scene and upon our arrival, we found the officer’s wrecked vehicle in the middle of the road, with him trapped inside.

“He was declared dead at the scene.

“During investigations at the scene we found that the other vehicle he collided with was in a veld nearby.

“The driver of that vehicle sustained injuries and was transported to a nearby hospital,” says Ernst

She adds that the police officer was stationed at the Honeydew SAPS.

“We are currently uncertain as to what caused the incident but I can confirm that investigating officer Brian Wylbacht is looking into the case.
