Randmark runners excel

Randmark athletes has a blast during the Colgate Race and shows that they are still a competitive force in athletics.

Randmark Cycling and Running Club attended the ever growing and prestigious Colgate race that took place in Germiston on 4 May.

Randmark had quite a few athletes competing at this event and all of them showed that they are great athletes in their respective categories.

The route that these athletes ran is a undulating route which allows athletes to run a good and steady pace.

There was a cut-off time of 4 hours on the 15 kilometer route as well as on the 32 kilometer route and every Randmark athlete completed the race within the cut off time.

According to a Randmark representative, Wilma Botha, this was a fun morning for all the athletes with the cherry on the cake being one of their veterans getting a podium position.

“Estelle Oosthuizen took a first place in the Female Grandmasters Category in a time of one hour 30 minutes in the 15 kilometer race,” says Wilma.

“Running is for all ages and at Randmark we encourage this.

“At time trials we often have the junior runners from the scools come join us and we keep members informed on races to attend that are well organised.

“Anyone interested in joining a group of crazy people who get up early to go running on week-ends should contact the club and start taking part in our events.

“Together with running we also offer walking, as walking is recognised and offered at most running races,” says Wilma.

“Some races even have a separate start for Walkers.”

A very good walking race to keep in mind is the 702 Walk the Talk where thousands take to the streets to walk.

This race takes place on Sunday 27 July at Marks Park Sports Club, Emmarentia, offering 20 kilometer, 8 milometer and 5 kilometer routes for the fit and the not so fit.
