Greenhills cemetery a mess again

Graves have sunk into the ground and large tree's are also falling on top of what's left of these graves.

The Greenhills cemetery is evidently in shambles once again despite numerous promises by the Randfontein Local Municipality that the cemetery would be maintained.

This was revealed during a recent site visit conducted by Randfontein Herald DA chief whip Evert du Plessis.

The strange phenomenon of graves sinking into the ground seems to have gotten much worse that during our last visit.

Numerous tombstones lay shattered on the ground while municipal workers on site sit around sunning themselves.

According to Du Plessis, this is a common site at the cemetery.

“I must admit that the cemetery isn’t as bad as it used to be but a lot of work still needs to be done to get it up to standard.

“Our municipality is making a habit out of fixing things and then leaving them to fall into decay again instead of maintaining them.”

Randfontein Herald has tried in vain to contact the Randfontein Local Municipality’s head of communications Phillip Montshiwa.
