Local farmers receive tractors and farming implements

This is expected to empower local farmers to start their own businesses and produce their own foods. In the long run, this is expected to eradicate poverty and unemployment in the area.

The Westonaria Local Municipality handed over two tractors and farming implements to the community of emerging farmers in the area on 11 April.

Over 100 farmers and emerging farmers gathered at the Westonaria Local Municipality for the hand over, which, according to MMC for Finance Allex Ntshiba, this will allow farmers to have the necessary tools of trade in order to empower themselves and start their own businesses.

“We really hope that this effort will resuscitate farming and agriculture in Westonaria.

“We also trust that the farmers will make use of these tools to lessen poverty and hopefully eradicate unemployment,” says Ntshiba.

He urged the farmers to create for themselves a market where they would be able to sell their produce.

Meanwhile, a farmer’s committee has already been established and is expected to represent farmers and facilitate the utalisation and the maintenance of the tractors and implements.
