Video: Randfontein Oval track hosts regionals

Visit the Randfontein Oval Raceway on 12 April for an action packed regional racing event.

The Randfontein Oval Raceway is gearing up to host a massive regional oval racing event on 12 April.

These regional racing events are very popular and people from far and wide are expected to flock to Randfontein to attend.

The top drivers from Rustenburg, Volksrust, Newcastle, Loskop and Randfontein will drive their hearts out in order to spin dust into the eyes of their competitors.

According to race organisers, the event will se some of the cream of the crop of South African oval race drivers, including V8 sprint car legend Willie Zurich, taking part.

“There will be a total of 11 categories including the V8 sprint cars, midgets, tin-tops, hot rods, bangers, flexi’s, 2.1 saloons, 1660 modified saloons, 1660 stock cars, quads and many more competing,” says race organiser Marie Coetzee.

“We are expecting a huge showdown because this is a very important race in the season.”

According to Marie, spectators can expect sparks to fly as newcomers will be pushing hard to make themselves count against some of the older, more experienced drivers.

“We have very high hopes for our local drivers, says Marie.

“Tommy Wotherspoon, who will be competing in the 1660 category has shown a lot of promise so far this season and we are confident that he can cause a bit of an upset in this category.

“It is a huge honour for us to be able to host an event of this magnitude and we would love to see the Randfontein community come out in force to egg on their local drivers.

“The drivers work extremely hard to make it to this level and with the support of the crowd in your pocket, you have half the race won.”

This is one of very few activities in Randfontein that caters to the entire family, and with a fully stocked shop, no-one will have to go hungry or thirsty on the night.

Races kick off at around 6pm and the events normally carry on well into the night.

Entry to the event will cost R50 per person, and only R10 per child under 12.

So why not support local motorsport and visit the Randfontein Oval Raceway for an action packed and fun filled evening for the whole family?
