An 8-year-old child has been brutally raped on 2 February in Mohlakeng at approximately 7pm.
This was alleged by the mother of the girl who said that the suspect lured the child into his home where he undressed her and raped her.
According to Captain Appel Ernst from the Randfontein SAPS, at this stage she cannot reveal more information with regards to the case but can say that fortunately the child was able to identify the suspect shortly after the ordeal and the matter was reported to the police.
“Members of the community tried to take matters into their own hands when they tried to attack the suspect.
“Police officers were called to the scene to intervene in order to prevent serious injury to the suspect by the angry crowd,” says Ernst.
She adds that the man was arrested and will appear at the Randfontein Magistrates’ Court on 20 February for his bail application.
