Bogus police officers hijack truck

They pulled over the victim and pretended to inspect his vehicle prior to the hijacking.

The notorious R559, also known as the Zuurbekom Road was the scene of yet another truck hijacking on 23 January.

The hijacking was pulled off by two men pretending to be police officers.

The area is known a a hijacking hotspot with numerous similar incidents having occurred here.

According to Randfontein SAPS spokesperson, Captain Appel Ernst, the truck was underway to Randfontein when the incident occurred.

“It is understood that the man was stopped by two men wearing police uniforms,” says Ernst.

“They went on to inspect his vehicle license disc and claimed that the information on the disc does not correspond with the vehicle’s particulars.

“The bogus officer climbed into the truck and instructed the driver to drive to the nearest police station where further inspections would be conducted,” says Ernst.

She adds that the bogus officers forced the driver to take a different route.

“The truck driver was assaulted repeatedly before being tied up and forced into the back of the truck.

“He was later left in a veld.”
