Security guard corners car thieves

The suspects were trying to steal a blue Toyota Yaris.

Three suspects have been arrested by EPR security guards after a botched car theft incident in Greenhills Avenue on 5 January at approximaty 5.25 pm.

According to EPR managing director Mac van Zyl, they received a panic alarm from one of their clients.

When they made contact with the client, they were informed about a group of men travelling in a white Volkswagen Golf, who had tried to steal a vehicle in the vicinity.

The client gave a brief description of the suspects and the vehicle and a reaction officer was sent to the scene.

“On his way to the scene, reaction officer Jacques Ferreira came across the suspicious vehicle and decided to follow it.

“The suspects became aware that they were being followed and pulled over, opting to flee on foot,” says van Zyl.

He adds that Ferreira called for back-up and gave chase.

The suspects jumped over numerous boundary walls in the neighbourhood before being trapped and arrested by EPR reaction officers.

The suspects were handed over to police officers at the scene.

A search of their car produced a number of suspected stolen items.
