Child rapist gets his due

Moiloa abducted the 6-year-oldgirl on 8 November and took her to a local veld where he severely assaulted her and raped her numerous times before leaving her for dead.

Rape accused Kgomotso Moiloa (22) was slapped with a harsh jail term of 40 years (effective) in prison after he was found guilty on a charge of rape, attempted murder and abduction of a six-year-old Mohlakeng girl at the Randfontein Magistrates’ Court on 26 November.

Moiloa is believed to have been a friend of the girl’s father.

Moiloa was sentenced to life imprisonment for rape, 10 years for attempted murder and five years for abduction by Magistrate Ettiene van Niekerk, who said that what Moiloa has done, was to destroy the future of the young girl in question.

Van Niekerk recalled that Moiloa had appeared before the court previously on a charge of housebreaking, and that judgement in that case is expected to be passed down in December.

“He has disregarded the chance that the court had given him in order to stay out of trouble and went to commit an even more serious crime,” said Niekerk.

The gathered crowd in the packed to capacity courtroom had to be silenced when they broke out in applause while Van Niekerk read out his verdict.

Moiloa abducted the 6-year-old girl from her home on 8 November and took her to a local veld where he severely assaulted her and raped her numerous times before leaving her for dead.

She was found unconcious in the veld the next day by her grandmother and immediately taken to hospital.

Fortunately, the girl was able to utter Moiloa’s name to her mother at the hospital, which subsequently led to his arrest.

According to Investigating Officer in the case, Maurnie Bekker, the girl will never be the same again,

“I am happy with the sentence imposed on Moiloa, however the girl will never be the same again.

“She has been severely damaged both emotionally and physically,” says Bekker.

Meanwhile, the girl’s mother also says that she is pleased with the sentence and hopes that the Moiloa will rot in jail.

“I am relieved now that justice has taken its course.

“That man belongs in jail.”

During court proceedings, the packed courtroom heard that the girl is having trouble adjusting to life after the incident.

Besides for struggling with the injuries she incurred during her ordeal, she cannot stand to be around men and she does not feel comfortable talking to her uncles or her male relatives.
