Hijackers open fire on motorist

A Randfontein man narrowly escaped death when hijackers opened fire on his car.

A man narrowly escaped death when two men started shooting at him while he was reversing his car out of his driveway in Mohlakeng.

This was on 20 September at approximately 3.30 and the man was leaving for work when the incident occurred.

According to Randfontein SAPS spokesperson Captain Appel Ernst, the victim exited his vehicle to close the gate when two men suddenly emerged and instructed him to stop.

“The man immediately jumped into his vehicle and drove off.

“The suspects opened fire on him, and although his car was bullet ridden, he was not injured,” says Ernst.

She urges that people have to be constantly vigilant and aware of their surroundings.

“Criminals are constantly out and about ready to strike whenever the opportunity presents itself.

“Keep your eyes open at all times.

“I can assure you that criminals do and that is why they often get the better of people.”

Meanwhile, Randfontein SAPS investigation officer warrant officer Bongani Mpete is investigating the case.
