Man arrested for shooting trespasser

The circumstances surrounding the incident are receiving intense investigation by police.

A 55-year-old man has been arrested after he fired a shot and killed a 29-year-old unknown man in his property on 23 September in the Pelzvale area.

This was at approximately 9 pm and the man had just arrived home when the incident occurred.

According to Randfontein SAPS spokesperson Captain Appel Ernst, it is unclear whether the man who was killed was trespassing on the resident’s property to carry out a criminal act or not

“At this point, I cannot reveal any more information with regard to the case but I can confirm that the circumstances surrounding the incident are receiving intense investigation.” says Ernst.

Upon police’s arrival at the scene, forensic officers collected the necessary evidence and the man was transported to the Roodepoort Mortuary.

Meawhile, the suspect has appeared at the Randfontein Magistrates’ Court on 25 September and his case was remanded.

Investigating Officer Warrant Officer Bongani Mpete says that the man is expected to appear again in court soon and hopefully the case will be concluded.
