Police raid local liquor outlets

People need to know that it is unacceptable to sell alcohol without a trading licence.

Randfontein police embarked on a search operation at the local liquor outlets throughout Randfontein on 28 August.

During this time, they raided an illegal tavern in Mohlakeng on Rakale Street.

According to an officer at the scene, they received a tip off that the premises was being used as a tavern.

The police closed in on the owner of the alleged tavern and conducted a search at the premises while residents were watching.

Officers discovered a few bottles of alcohol at the premises, but the woman said that they were purely for her own enjoyment.

According to Randfontein SAPS spokesperson Captain Appel Ernst, the long arm of the law will catch those selling liquor without a trading licence.

“We have started operations throughout Randfontein and people need to know that it is unacceptable to sell alcohol without a trading licence.

“In the same breath, we do appreciate the tip-offs we get from the community. It shows that when working together, we can achieve more in terms of rooting out destructive elements in our communities,” says Ernst.
