Cooper College has announced the appointment of Joulia Karamichael as its new executive head.

Karamichael has plenty of experience in the education sector and holds a bachelor’s degree in commerce, a Higher Diploma in Education, and honours and master’s degrees in education and learning support.

Her career spans over three decades, featuring leadership roles in independent schools, including St Alban’s, Saheti, Kingsmead College, and Dainfern College. Notably, her extensive experience in launching and managing the Cambridge International Curriculum at Dainfern College equips her with institutional knowledge to enhance Cooper College’s offerings.

Karamichael’s passion for outdoor activities, literature, and extensive travels to 16 countries have profoundly influenced her perspective on education. She believes that education transcends traditional classroom boundaries and emphasises the importance of a holistic approach to nurture empathy, understanding, and independence in learners.

As both a dedicated teacher and a mother of three, Karamichael understands the significance of a supportive and nurturing environment. Her educational philosophy aligns seamlessly with Cooper College’s mission of fostering well-rounded individuals prepared to become conscientious global leaders.

“In my view, the most valuable gift we can offer the learners in our care is their matric leaving certificate,” she says, emphasising the pivotal role of education in every learner’s life. She believes that educators should strive to provide learners with opportunities to pursue their aspirations, discover their unique talents, and develop into active, conscientious global citizens.
