Lucinda Harman is the new ward councillor

Lucinda Harman said the teamwork in the DA was supreme and no stone was left unturned in its work to win the by-election.

The newly elected Ward 102 councillor, Lucinda Jane Harman said active citizenship with good relationships and business support were key to her victory.

The DA won the by-elections on August 23 with a resounding 94,67% of the total votes cast. This compared to 71,22% during the 2021 municipal elections. Voter turnout was 16.5%.

“The DA teamwork was supreme. No stone was left unturned in the work we did,” Harman told Randburg Sun. “I am very happy with the result and for the DA, Johannesburg, Gauteng and South Africa. For every resident who deserves great solid leadership.”

DA Gauteng leader and member of parliament, Solly Msimanga said Harman’s commitment to excellence is evident in her history as a successful entrepreneur.

“In addition to being a committed businesswoman, she has always been an active member of her community whilst bolstering those around her as a TEDx speaker,” Msimanga said of the author and former chairperson of the Kyalami AH Ext1 Residents Association, Ward 94 committee member for health, and vice chairperson for Ward 94’s DA branch.

“The DA is especially happy with her victory in this election, as residents deserve both an alternative to the failing government and a representative that will fight for them in the City of Gold. Lucinda strives to be exactly that person.”

The other candidates were Mboshwa Zephaniah Thwala (52) of the ANC, Bernadictor Mini (48) of the EFF and Matthew William Pienaar (28) of the Organic Humanity Movement (OHM).

Ward 102 covers much of Blairgowrie, Bordeaux, Randburg CBD and surrounding areas.
