Local rapper wants to take his family out of struggle through music

Cosmo City singer aims to grow his music and give other upcoming artists an opportunity to showcase their talent.

Known to many of his fans by his stage name, Swizzy Daphiloso, Freddy Matome (28) has become a music sensation in Cosmo City.

Growing up in the dusty streets of Ga-Sekgopo in Limpopo, Swizzy was surrounded by music. “My family, uncles and friends were all lovers of music.”

Swizzy started recording his songs in 2009. He drew his inspiration from people’s lived experiences.

Rapper Swizzy Daphiloso aims to take the music industry by storm with his unique sound.

He told Randburg Sun that his music touched on subjects such as the high rate of unemployment and other local artists who were struggling to get recognition.

According to the star, he has released more than 300 hundred songs which include features, mixtapes and solo EPs. Adding to his extensive repertoire is his newest album Overcomer which was released on March 18.

He hoped from this album and many of his other songs, that his audience would draw the belief that anything was possible. “I want my songs to encourage anyone who is struggling, or finding it hard to make ends meet, that they can achieve their goals.”

The rapper mirrored the belief he has in others, into his own life too. “Even though I am struggling to get my songs played on big radio stations and TV channels, I strongly believe that one day doors will open.”

There is little doubt in Swizzy’s mind that one day he will collaborate with big artists such as Cassper Nyovest, King Monada, KO and others.
