Local stone sculptor shares his passion

BRYANSTON – Over the years, Innocent Manjengenja has not only improved his skill and level of detail, but many of his art pieces have found their way abroad.


Local stone sculptor Innocent Manjengenja continues to share his passion though art.

Manjengenja, who started carving stone at an early age, has brought the inspirations of the Shona art culture in Zimbabwe to the Bryanston Market.

He makes a variety of stone which he sculpts, chisels and polishes to perfection.

“Art collectors from all over the world would come to our community to buy Shona art. They used to buy my artworks when I was still going to school, and that’s where I discovered that art was going to be my livelihood,” said Manjengenja.

While much of his work is based on beautiful creatures of nature, the passionate artist also does abstract pieces for which he draws inspiration from introspection.

Over the years, Manjengenja has not only improved his skill level, but many of his art pieces have found their way abroad. His work has successfully been exhibited in Johannesburg, Cape Town, the United States of America, the United Kingdom, Germany and the Netherlands.

“The market has changed my life, I have been doing very well,” he said.

Manjengenja also runs stone sculpting workshops and undertakes commissioned pieces.
