Linden police warn of thefts at homes that owners are trying to sell

LINDEN – A recent incident saw 'buyers' steal a TV from a house on show.

Linden police would like to warn the community to be more careful when they sell their houses.

Police spokesperson, Constable Takalani Sibiya said a new crime trend in the area involved criminals targeting homeowners who have advertised to sell their homes.

“They [criminals] will come to your houses as if they want to view the house and would tell you that they are interested to buy,” she said.

“In most cases, two or three people, male and female, will enter the house. Then one of them will ask for the bathroom while the other one is busy checking what’s inside the house.”

This is what happened to a recent complainant, the constable said.

Even with two women showing the home, they could not monitor all three guests who had arrived together and found that one of them must have stolen a TV, which was missing after the guests left.
