Newly elected Joburg Mayor announces new MMCs

JOHANNESBURG – Changes were made to the finance and economic development portfolios.

The City of Johannesburg’s newly elected executive mayor Jolidee Matongo has confirmed his 10-member mayoral committee on August 11.

Shortly after being sworn in, Matongo announced his new list of MMCs which saw a majority of members previously assigned by late executive mayor Geoff Makhubo retain their positions.

“The choice of MMCs is in support of the theme of continuation with the implementation of the Government of Local Unity’s priorities, which are aligned to the Joburg Growth and Development Strategy (GDS) 2040,” said spokesperson for the office of the executive mayor, Mlimandlela Ndamase.

Matongo only made changes to the finance and economic development portfolios.

Councillor Matshidiso Mfikoe was appointed as the MMC of Finance while Councillor Thomas Mofokeng replaces MMC Lawrence Khoza in the Economic Development portfolio.

The remaining portfolios remain unchanged.
