Randburg DJ chases his dreams

RANDBURG – Randburg’s DJ Chase recently opened his own music school to help inspire the talents of others.

Randburg’s DJ Chase is a music producer and house DJ that is hitting all the right notes right now, both in his personal life and the lives of others.

DJ Chase, whose real name Matibisi Ntshwana (which means the one who chases or chaser) grew up in Lebowakgomo, Limpopo. It is there where he spent several hours in his room, strumming away at his guitar that he had received as a present.
He knew even then that music would be the only career he wanted to pursue.

“Even as a young child, I only wanted to be a musician and worked towards that from an early age. I would fantasise about going to an art school like the one I saw in the movie Fame,” said DJ Chase.
He could hardly believe his luck when he heard about the National School of the Arts in Braamfontein. He immediately applied and was accepted and majored in keyboards for contemporary music.

Today, he is a music producer who has worked with the likes of DJ Ganyani and Kabelo ‘Bouga Love’ Mabalane of TK-ZEE, with more collaborations on the way. He is best known for house music but produces across the range.
You can also find DJ Chase deejaying at various spots and gigs around town. His latest house song Linda, featuring powerhouse vocalist Busi N, came out toward the end of last year and is still enjoying support from both fans and national radio.
In addition, he has finally realised a life-long dream of opening a music school.

Situated in Braamfontein, Volume Music Academy is a weekend school developing the next generation of musos.
When the academy opened its doors in March, no one knew what sort of creatives the school would attract. Three months down the line, the results have been more than pleasing.

“It is key for me to develop talent while I am active in the industry. It means course content is taught almost in real-time. Our first intake has brought a mix of future and current producers, vocalists and DJs. This is ideal as our school is about collaborations. Every week students feed off each other’s creativity – just the kind of synergy we want to showcase when we wrap up the year with a compilation,” concluded DJ Chase.
