Zandspruit author offers hope after trauma
ZANDSPRUIT – Author offers hope to those with a history of trauma and those of disadvantaged backgrounds.
Instead of letting the hardships of lockdown and Covid-19 bring Ithumeleng Dithupe down, he decided to write his third book.
The former Cosmo City and current Zandspruit resident has not had an easy life, but he is now an accomplished author and screenwriter, and helps other people of disadvantaged backgrounds achieve their dreams through his non-profit organisation, Dithupe’s Foundation.
“Through conversations with my co-screenwriters, my eyes have been opened to the fact that although I experienced abuse and trauma as a child, my brain found ways to adapt,” he said.
“This is where hope lives for all of us – in the unique adaptability of our miraculous brains.”
This is the focus of his newest book, Journey of Self Discovery, which he hopes will help people find tools to build a renewed sense of self-worth, and recalibrate their responses to circumstances, situations, and relationships.

“I went through a lot of hardship and depression in lockdown but I was able to write this,” he continued.
“I hope this can inspire someone and help people discover themselves. My new book is for anyone with a mother, father, partner, or child who may have experienced trauma. The earlier the trauma, the harder it is to heal.
“If you’ve ever had labels like ‘people pleaser,’ ‘self-sabotager,’ ‘disruptive,’ ‘argumentative,’ ‘checked out,’ ‘can’t hold a job,’ or ‘bad at relationships’ used to describe you or your loved ones, this book is also for you.”
