Help animals in need get transported

JOBURG – The Johannesburg SPCA needs monetary donations that could help them get a bakkie to help transport animals.

The Johannesburg SPCA is in dire need of monetary donations which the organisation plans to use towards the purchase of a vehicle.

Last year one of its inspectors had a serious accident with one of their busiest vehicles. This vehicle has a cage attached to it and is used every day to collect stray, injured animals or any donated or unwanted pets.

Public relations for the organisation, Liana Marx, said this vehicle would go out 8am every day and come back at around 4pm. “With the accident, we were extremely thankful the inspector was not injured nor the cage.”
She added that their dilemma now is they are one vehicle down – a vehicle that was used to collect multiple animals at a time, saving petrol fees and time. “Now being one down our reaction time is sadly longer and our concerns are that since we are not able to react as fast as we wish, an animal might end up suffering.”

Marx explained although insurance did pay out and Hyundai South Africa also came on board and made a generous donation towards purchasing a new one, it is still nowhere near enough. “The vehicle we lost was a Hyundai H-100 2.6 Euro two-deck and we desperately need the same vehicle as the cage we have can just be placed onto the new one.”
Coupled with the branding of the new vehicle they are currently at R200 000 to cover all the costs. “As an animal welfare relying totally on the generosity of the public, we simply don’t have this amount to purchase a new bakkie.”
Marx appealed to the generosity of their supporters to please help them, as without the help of the community they will not be able to continue helping as many animals in need.

For donations made towards the JSPCA, they will provide a Section 18A tax certificate.
