2020 National Arts Festival Village Green goes online

The Virtual Green will offer an online treasure trove of beautifully crafted, proudly South African wares.

Monica Newton, CEO of the National Arts Festival has announced that the annual Virtual Green would be housed on the Festival’s website this year.

“We decided that the show must go on, which has meant that the Festival has had to pivot into the digital realm,” she said.  The Virtual National Arts Festival will take place online between 25 June and 5 July and will present some of the much-loved Village Green finds like woolly beanies, handmade jewellery, paintings and carvings, fabrics, clothing and more.

“It’s been a steep learning curve for all of us but we are determined to bring our audiences a very special experience. And what would the festival be without the Village Green, so we are inviting all our traders to come and join us,” said Newton. To make this digital event possible, the Festival has partnered with the Craft and Design Institute to bring traders from across South Africa onto a central online platform, Peek pages.

This will enable shoppers to purchase directly from crafters and traders. Peek prides itself on being dedicated to showcasing beautiful craft and design products made in South Africa. Erica Elk, Group CEO of the Craft Design Institute said, “We are excited about this opportunity to work with the National Arts Festival on the Virtual Green. Through Peek, we are raising awareness among consumers to ensure that local businesses continue to find leads, particularly with physical market opportunities currently being constrained.”

Traders wishing to participate in the 2020 Village Green should complete the application which is available from the Artist Zone on the National Arts Festival’s website www.nationalartsfestival.co.za Follow the Virtual National Arts Festival online: Twitter @artsfestival Instagram @nationalartsfestival Facebook @nationalartsfestivalmakhanda YouTube National Arts Festival
