Cele wishes Ward 101 residents a happy Christmas

NORTH RIDING – 'The year 2019 has been a very successful year for me as a ward councillor' – Ward 101 councillor Dalu Cele.

Ward 101 councillor Dalu Cele writes:

The year 2019 has been a very successful year for me as a ward councillor and for the community in Ward 101.

Among our many successes, the city had allocated funds for capital projects in Ward 101, in terms of improving the infrastructure in our ward.

For example, a street light project kicked off on 20 September by City Power to instal streetlights in the Northwold area.

Another example is the confirmed upgrade of our flagship park, Golden Harvest Park to the tune of R3 million, which although still to be finalised, includes the upgrade of facilities at the park for the use of the community.

The Johannesburg City Parks and Zoo hired the EPWP workers to clean up the Sharonlea Spruit at the Lower Sharonlea. The Sharonlea Spruit, which forms part of the Klein Jukskei river system, is looking marvellous and very clean.

The illegal dumping of a black chemical waste at the open space one the corner of Witdoring and President Fouché Drive in Sonneglans that was recorded on camera by a resident and went viral on social media. The highlight is that decisive action was taken by JMPD to impound and fine the owner of the vehicle, the laying of criminal charges of illegal dumping of hazardous waste at the Douglasdale SAPS against the culprit by the Gauteng Department of Agriculture and Rural Development as well as the compliance notice issued against the culprit to clean up the illegal dumping of the hazardous waste by the Department of Environment and Infrastructure Services in the City of Johannesburg.

I would like to regard Tony Joubert as a hero in our community. Tony noticed the illegal dumping incident of the hazardous chemical waste at the open space in Sonneglans, he recorded a video which he shared on social media. All of the above actions that were taken by authorities was a result of him taking an initiative to record the illegal incident.

Just like Tony, I would like to thank all members of the community in Ward 101 for their cooperation, active participation in all the activities in our ward.

I wish to take this opportunity to wish the residents in Ward 101 a safe and peaceful festive season, and best wishes for the year ahead.
