Stealing the festive season with new music

JOBURG – Yfm DJ Da Kruk will be setting December and 2020 on fire with some new music.

Hailing from Daveyton and now a resident of the lush suburb of Olivedale is DJ, Amapiano expert and T-shirt lover Kutloano Nhlapo aka ‘Da Kruk’. He started his radio career over 10 years ago and describes his craft as something dreamy.

“I’m living my dream, that’s what I do for a living,” Nhlapo said.

“You know, everything that I’ve almost always wanted or thought of is either happening or has happened or is going to happen. I see myself as a 360-degree man, I harness my skill and abilities in urban culture trends.”

His journey started after leaving university. “I enrolled for a B Com law degree and made it all the way to second year. I was working at UJ Fm at the time and when I decided to quit law and focus on radio, I found that I was a step closer to what my purpose was.”

True to his purpose, he has his own late-night radio show called The Playa’s Club and is a YTKO resident DJ on Monday nights on youth station Yfm. An all-round music lover, Nhlapo was the winner of DJ Black Coffee’s DJ search competition in 2017 where he showcased his talents across the world. “I got to play for the beautiful people in Ibiza, tour with Black Coffee and open up a couple of shows that side.”

Along with his travels, Nhlapo has fans in Germany and Turkey too. He has experienced some parts of the world and introduced a summer event called Magic Day Club which was inspired by his travels.

“It’s a really beautiful and ambient experience. It’s basically me putting together all my experiences from abroad and bringing it home at a beautiful beach venue in Benoni.

“It’s just encouraging everyone to mix and chill with a beautiful pool over the sunset.”

While he is still working on some tracks for 2020, you may catch some of his new tunes at the next Magic Day Club on 1 December.

“I’m not too sure yet how I will be dropping the music – maybe in an EP or album. Be ready for a lot of it next year, I’m very excited.”

He loves the Randburg area and his favourite chill spot is the Royale situated in Craighall Park.

“I’m becoming part of the furniture at the Royale – it’s really cool there you know. I run into like-minded people, other creatives, share stories and it’s a beautiful gem which brings people together.”

Another love of his is T-shirts, from the thread count to the design and fabric. And when he is not out making new Amapiano sounds, influencing urban culture or travelling the world you can catch him at Sorbet Man at Hyde Park Corner having some spoils.
