He has a melodic voice on our radio waves

RANDBURG – Raving personality Melody Miya is not stopping now.

A businessman and member of the 947 crew Miya at the age of 28 has worked harder than most in his craft. With a BA (Hons) in sports, Miya dabbled in the medical field as a scrub. Despite earning a six-figure salary at the age of 22, Miya felt that he was not following his passion.

“I was getting a huge double-digit salary but I was depressed. I couldn’t be myself and I decided that this was not for me. I told my dad and he called me a failure. “We’re very close now. I spoke to God and asked him to take anything and everything that’s not mine. One week later I was in a car accident and hospitalised for three weeks.

It was then that I decided to leave that job and follow my dream – I took it as a sign.” Starting off as an intern and then leaving the corporate side at UJ FM, a prime afternoon slot opened up and the job was his. In December last year he got his big break after receiving a call from Joburg’s ‘best’ station 947 to be part of the team.

The rest is history and he describes his craft as something amazing and loves the feeling he gets from it. “The feeling it gives me is freedom and with that comes responsibility. You see you have the responsibility to make people listen a second longer but you have the freedom to create what they are listening to.

“My brain is all in the element of content creation and that is who I am becoming now. Content is a lot of things and it’s something I have a passion for right now.” Apart from being one of the best on the scene right now he also runs a non-profit organisation called Conquer MIH. In it’s fifth year running the annual Conquer Games are held to uplift the community and create.

“It is a fusion of sports and indigenous games, because I have two degrees in sports I felt it was important to use it to uplift the community and that’s when my heart said ‘You need to start creating’.” His one wish for the future is for young people to stop looking at their problems and start looking for solutions.

After eight years on his journey his advice to up-andcoming personalities is to stay consistently hardworking. “Be authentic and be hardworking. One thing that sets me apart is my work ethic and it has been consistent. I have been at the lowest end of the pool and I’ve worked harder than the person at the top because I know one day when I get to the top I will know it’s because of my hard work.

“Eight years later I’m still not where I want to be but I am a bigger personality in myself than I would have been had I gotten to the top quickly.” Listen to him every Saturday and Sunday from midnight to 4am and when he is not soothing our ears catch him working out at the gym in the North Riding area.
