This week’s movies are packed with wow factor

JOBURG – With a Yeti, a world-famous opera star, a touch of horror and a spin on the Cinderella story, there’s plenty of choice at the movies

Known as a classical music icon, there’s no doubt that Luciano Pavarotti’s life revolved around everything musical. He blessed the world with his voice and Pavarotti takes a look into historical performances, never-before-seen footage and intimate interviews about his life. The biopic perfectly portrays the man said to be opera’s most loved singer. It’s a riveting movie that will make you fall in love with his music all over again. Go on an adventure in a Chinese city with a little girl and her two friends in Abominable. After finding a Yeti on the roof of her apartment building, Yi sets out on a 3000km journey to return the Yeti to his family in the Himalayan snows, which happen to be the highest point on earth. They encounter lots of twists and turns while en route in this cute tale of friendship and love. The film stars Chloe Bennet, Tenzing Norgay Trainor, Albert Tsai, Eddie Izzard, Sarah Paulson, Tsai Chin, Michelle Wong.  (In cinemas  September 27.)

A bride’s dream quickly turns into a nightmare when her strange new in-laws force her to take part in a terrifying game. Ready or Not is a slightly amusing horror movie directed by Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett and stars Samara Weaving as a newlywed who becomes hunted by her husband’s family as part of their wedding night ritual – a ritual that sees the new bride fight for her life in a seemingly harmless game. This is one for music lovers! Teen Spirit is a visceral, stylish spin on the Cinderella story and follows Violet, a shy small town teenage girl in pursuit of pop music stardom. With the help of an unlikely mentor, she enters a local singing competition that will test her integrity, talent and ambition.
