Suzuki Baleno gets a refresh

Suzuki enthusiasts will be glad to see the addition of a refreshed Baleno to dealership floors.

The Baleno measuring in at 3 995 mm in length with a wheelbase of 2 520 mm feature within the B-segment although offers near C-segment space remains on built Suzuki’s TECT platform. The exterior see more emphasis placed on the “Liquid Flow” design language with a wider chrome strip adorning the more aggressive grille up front. The headlights feature a new three-dimensional design and GLX models will see LED technology replace the previous HID lamps. The front bumper now comes with more aggressive creases and a hexagonal centre intake with GLX models fitted with fog lamps.

Adding to the more premium feel is the diamond cut alloy wheels and chrome door handles, beltline and on the rear tailgate. The specification form also sees the addition of six new colours including Magma Grey. On the inside occupants will notice the new two-tone colour treatment on the seat upholstery and door trim featuring deep blue cloth. The facia, air conditioning vents, steering wheel and instrument is now adorned with brushed aluminium trim. The Baleno in GL specification comes fitted with power steering, electric windows front and rear, a radio with Bluetooth, MP3 playback, USB socket and CD player and steering-mounted audio controls, remote keyless access, front and rear 12V sockets, height-adjustable driver seat and a luggage area light. The GL models will protect its occupants with ISOFIX mounting points, two airbags and ABS brakes with EBD and emergency brake assistance.

Baleno’s in GLX guise will additionally come fitted with cruise control, fully automatic climate control, push-button start, leather trim on the steering wheel, rear park distance control with a camera and a front armrest with the radio replaced by a 7.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system with voice command functionality and Android Auto and Apple CarPlay compatibility. GLX occupants also receive additional airbags including side curtain airbags and rear disc brakes.

For motivation, both GL and GLX derivatives come fitted with a 1.4-litre petrol engine mated to a five-speed manual gearbox. The motor delivers 68 kW and 130 N.m of torque. GLX models can be specified with a four-speed automatic gearbox.

The Baleno will be sold with a 4-year / 60 000 km service plan and Suzuki’s promotional warranty of 5-year / 200 000 km.
