Glamour at Concours South Africa

When you think about any Concours event, glamour and style come to mind. The 2019 event did not disappoint on any level.

Taken place on the lush lawns of Steyn City, Concours South Africa saw plenty of collectable and classic cars participate ranging from Opel Kadett Super Boss models to Porsche 356 Coupes. One of the show stoppers were a 1961 Mercedes-Benz 300SL that was beautifully restored by Scribante Racing while Porsche fans enjoyed a rare RS Auto Sport restored 1973 Carrera RS. VIP guests also had the opportunity to enjoy refreshments from Pernod Ricard and share their pictures over the free Afrihost Wi-Fi at the different Netflorist decorated hospitality areas from event partners, Steyn City, Nedbank Private Wealth, Daytona Group and Old School leather jackets while taking in the views of the latest vehicles from McLaren, Aston Martin and Rolls Royce.

Spring day saw guests come and enjoy the day in the sun with some of the most original and glamorous outfits. Mrs Carolyn Steyn took the time to choose the best-dressed lady and awarded the honour to Lizelia Wort which in 2018 won best of show with her 1989 Ferrari 328 GTS. “We’re delighted to see this year’s event grow and to have had the opportunity to host Concours South Africa at our new picturesque location with its quaint stone bridges and scenic dams – there’s a perfect synergy between our lush parkland setting and this elegant automobile event; it fits hand in glove with our aim to provide residents with the opportunity to enjoy the finer things in life,” Giuseppe Plumari, CEO of Steyn City Properties.

In the end, the day was concluded with the announcement of the vehicles which won in their respective classes and 2019 Best of Show. In third place was Neville Forssman’s 1960 Alfa Romeo Guilietta Sprint while a near mint condition Brilliant Red BMW 325iS not only won in its class but took second place overall. The winner was a Dino Rosso (Dino Red) 1971 Ferrari Dino 246 GT owned by the renowned Campher brothers.

“The level of competition was extra-ordinarily high, so much so that the top ten, selected for final judging, became a top twelve!” Marius Malherbe, Chief Judge, Concours SA.
