If you are all about discovering the latest in design, food and wine created by some of the best artisans in Africa – then you will want to make sure that you have diarised this weekend, 12 – 14 October, to join in all the fun on the roof top of Hyde Park Corner, as the 2018 Sanlam Handmade Contemporary Fair (SHMC) celebrates it’s 9th year!
The theme of the event this year is ‘return to making’, which seeks to amplify the journey of how products are made while highlighting the unique stories told through their craftsmanship.
Since it’s inception in 2010 – the event, which was founded by Artlogic, has been sponsored by Sanlam and SHMC is the first fair of its kind in South Africa. Over the years, the fair has continued to echo the resounding energy of African creativity and passion for all things quality and home-grown.
Fair Curator, Cassandra Twala says, “We feature both emerging and established local fashion, lifestyle and homeware brands, top SA chefs, high-end wine labels, microbreweries and specialty foods. Artlogic prides itself on providing a retail and marketing platform that connects entrepreneurs and small- to mediums-sized businesses with a discerning and supportive audience.”
Keeping on innovating, each year sees creative and different projects coming to the fore and this year is no different.
Meet different designers and artists at their specially created pavilions for artists in the same fields. Debuting this year, Makers Corner, will be created from a series of interactive making workshops within Hyde Park Corner.
Making the Masters makes a return with another panel discussion, hosted in conjunction with Creative Mornings on the 13th October.  This initiative aims to impart knowledge and years of experience from the selected speaker to budding artisans and peers.
And there is loads more on offer as well!
Tickets are available for R 130 each on www.sanlamhmc.co.za or at the door for R150 (kids under 12 enter free).
The fair is open on Friday, 12 October from 12 pm to 9pm, on Saturday, 13 October from 10am to 9pm and from Sunday, 14 October from 10am to 4pm.
