RANDBURG – Dancers invited to biggest dance competition

Dancers from Randburg are invited to the first-ever Africa and Inter-Continental Dance championship and Inter-Continental battles.

This celebration of dance will be held at the Walter Sisulu Hall from the 13 to 16 September.

Randburg dancers are not the only ones invited as the invitation has been extended to dancers and dance crews from across the country to be part of this new dance platform.

Moz Elements, a dance crew from Mozambique is slated to showcase their talents at the dance competition.

More than 1 000 dancers are expected to compete and this number will include dancers from over 10 countries.

The organiser of the competition is Global Dance Supreme, an organisation aimed at developing competitive dance events throughout the African continent and the rest of the world.

Fairchild Phiri from Global Dance Supreme said the dance competition has various divisions and sections, starting from the junior section with dancers aged seven to 12 years old until the adult division.

“The adult division includes Legion Division, which has up to 40 dancers in the dance group,” said Phiri.

As part of the competition, there will also be a dance development workshop from 8 to 10 September, hosted by the best local choreographers.

“Choreographers such as Buddha Stretch from the USA, French dancer, choreographer and artistic director, Marrie ‘Poppins’ Bonnevay, JaMar Spartan Jackson, a krump dancer from New York, choreographer and instructor, Candace Brown and two-time Red Bull BC One world champion, Bboy Lilou from France, South African Sello Reuben Modiga who has a background in Pantsula workshops as well as Rudi Smit who will be concentrating on jazz-funk,” said Phiri.
