Curry on, mate – we get ourselves across to Aarya…

Aarya is located in SunSquare Montecasino and is run by South Africa’s first MasterChef SA winner, Deena Naidoo. Overlooking the vibrant outdoor piazza and fountain, this is the place to be relaxing this summer.

Chef Deena is usually present at the restaurant which we love, and the news that he has just opened up his second Aarya (named after his oldest daughter, by the way) in Silverstar Casino, means that there is more to come from this soft-spoken chef, and that makes us very happy.

The menu truly speaks for the South African nation and what MasterChef was aiming to achieve – bringing people from diverse cultures and backgrounds together through delicious and innovative food.

Deena is passionate about his spices, and he artfully blends a mix of traditional and contemporary, which results in a unique fusion menu that delights the palates of his guests. We also love the fact that the restaurant and kitchen is open plan, allowing us to watch Deena and his team of Aarya chefs in the kitchen is really cool.

The wine list is extensive, and besides the butter chicken curry – which is also so good that it’s also a pizza topping, favourites also included Tandoori Mushroom starters, as well as the Mussels in a Saffron Infused White Wine Cream which were a huge hit.

Meat lovers will be happy to know that the Burger Bar is one of the coolest, and their flame grilled meat cuts are tasty and affordable.

Aarya is Sanskrit and means noble and kind – and that is certainly the impression that we received from start to finish during our visit, and truly cannot wait to visit again.
