Prestige Football Development Academy trials a success

NEWLANDS – Trials go well for Prestige Football Development Academy.

Fifty boys made it through the selection round of Prestige Football Development Academy’s trials, which were hosted at the sports field of Hoërskool Die Burger in Whiteridge on 10 February.

There will be further assessment training for the young players which will allow the coaches a chance to work with them.

After the training has concluded, the academy will then announce the players who will officially join and become players. One of the coaches, Siphamandla Mthethwa said he was happy to have a large number of young players who were interested to join the academy.

“We had more than 100 young players attend the trials and that alone is a success,” he said.

“It means our club is doing well to attract the community’s attention and parents to be confident in bringing their children to us.”

Mthethwa added that for the U13 and U15 teams, they had 16 and 14 boys respectively, undergoing the second round of trials. “The U17 and U19 teams have 10 players each as well. Every season, players are promoted to the following age group while others move on to other academies so we have to replenish our teams hence the trials.”
