The group has always supported charities through their productions and this year they were happy to be associated with CHOC.

They performed HMS Dumbledore about five years ago, however, this time, the cast, props and location gave the performance a different feel.

Director of the musical pantomime, Chris Phillips said, “The Players have been in existence for about 28 years and have been entertaining audiences through musicals, pantomimes and revues since then.

“Some of the shows we have performed are Oklahoma, Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dream Coat, Fiddler on the Roof, My Fair Lady, Annie, Jack and the Beanstalk, Sonderfella and The Slightly off Jan Smuts Avenue Revue, to name but a few.”

He said the current production took eight months to rehearse with about six months dedicated to learning the music.

He explained that a significant amount of time was spent adapting the music of Gilbert and Sullivan to suit both the voices of the cast.

“The technical aspects of the show, the sets and props and the lighting play an integral part in the success of the show.”

He added that the cast of the show come from all walks of life and they volunteered months of their time to the show.

“Some played multiple roles and therefore had their work cut out for them.”

Phillips thanked Father Shaun von Lilienfeld and the St Martin de Porres Catholic Church for the use of the facilities.
