Fans crowded Golden Harvest Park to spend a lazy Sunday afternoon with family and friends watching their favourite performers at Large on the Lawn.
The sold-out concert saw 4 000 guests enjoy the lawns of the park with all things summery on 29 January to watch Matthew Mole and Jeremy Loops. Organiser, Damon Forbes said, “The whole idea is that there is something nice to do on a Sunday that is accessible.”
The concept of the Summer Concert Series – according to Forbes – is to bring people back into the Johannesburg’s parks and zoos.
Security and the Metro police were out in full force ensuring the safety of the concert-goers and visitors. “We hope to embrace the community and have everyone who attends be responsible for what happens in their community. Francois van Coke and Jack Parrow are the line-up for 26 February. And at the end of March we have Mango Groove and Al Bairre, and more to be announced,” added Forbes.
Cape Town-bred Yannick Meyer opened the concert with their chilled vibey music. As always the crowd jam-packed the front stage to listen to the charming tones of Matthew Mole, who has taken the South African music scene by storm.
For the Jeremy Loops band, it is the first time in nine months that they have performed in Johannesburg, and have some new songs and a changed set-list. Excited fans raised their hands and reached for the sunny afternoon sky as they danced to their harmonic tunes.
Sundays are no longer the dreaded last day of the weekend we all fear. The series has been forecast to be a once-a-month event, where friends and family can relax on a blanket with wine and snacks while enjoying some great tunes.
