Portuguese flavour returns to Albertskroon

ALBERTSKROON – The annual Magusto was well supported over the weekend of 26 and 27 November.

The annual traditional chestnut festival, Magusto, hit Albertskroon in its best year yet.

According to the chairperson of the executive committee of the Lar de Santa Isabel Retirement Village, Isabel Policardo, Magusto is the biggest fundraiser for the village. Proceeds from the stalls, as well as the food will go towards building a new section of the village for intermediate patients.

Lisa Pizzut-Nel and Ludi Nel enjoy the refreshments the festival has to offer.

Policardo mentioned that two-thirds of the residents of the village do not pay the full amount, and sometimes any boarding fee, so the money will also go to their care. “This was the most successful weekend in many years and it was the first time we had such a variety of stalls.”

Shirley Fodor, Julia Schulze and Dean Stroch stand in line for some roasted chestnuts.

The festival, on 26 and 27 November, saw visitors indulge in traditional Portuguese food, admire homemade arts and crafts and, of course, queue up for the roasted chestnuts imported from Portugal.

Ana Paula and Daniella Mosca browse the stalls.
