Good luck to our team

JOBURG – Team South Africa heads to Germany for the Culinary Olympics.

Minette Smith, teacher and pastry chef at the HTA School of Culinary Art in Ferndale said in a previous article that the IKA Culinary Olympics will take place from 22 to 25 October. Smith is also part of the team and is responsible for the dessert in the Restaurant of Nations Challenge.

The team, made up of seven chefs held an exclusive media lunch, where the dishes they will be preparing for the competition was served to eager members of the media. The dishes would represent South Africa and all ingredients must be found in Germany. Team manager, Heinz Brummer explained the courses.

For the starter, people in Germany can look forward to poached crayfish with Cape Malay curry, a Springbok loin and sweet breads for the main course and a strawberry, rose and hertzoggie dessert.

Team captain, Henrico Grobbelaar said that South Africa has always been in the top 15, but the team’s goal is to at least be in the top ten. The team will also have to prepare a cold table where dishes have to be on display for several hours.

The seven chefs have trained hard together for the past three years and Randburg Sun, Roodepoort Northsider, Northcliff/ Melville Times would like to say good luck to the team. Bring home the gold!
