Broadway musical, Annie to hit Montecasino

Broadway musical, Annie, which is based upon the popular Harold Gray comic strip – Little Orphan Annie – is set to showcase at Montecasino’s Teatro from 12 October until 27 November.

With music by Charles Strouse, lyrics by Martin Charnin, and the book by Thomas Meehan, the production promises to be the best one that the audience has ever seen.

Pieter Toerien and Hazel Feldman present this cracking new production of Annie, a family favourite musical which stars Charon Williams Ros (who played Mrs Lovett in the production, Sweeney Todd) as the tyrannical Miss Hannigan and Neels Claasen (who played in the production Mamma Mia! and We Will Rock You) as Daddy Warbucks. Taryn Sudding (from the production CATS, Sound of Music) plays Grace, with Stephen Jubber (from the production, Sunset Blvd, Jersey Boys, Mamma Mia and JC Superstar) as Rooster, and Delray Halgryn as Lilly.

Mike Huff (who played in the production, Phantom of the Opera and The Sound of Music), Candice von Litsenborgh (from the production, Little Shop of Horrors), Stefania du Toit, Jenna Robinson, Michelle Lane and Hope Maimane complete an all-star South African cast with a special appearance by Grant Almirall (star of Singin’ in the Rain and Jersey Boys) as Bert Healey.

Following an extensive six-month nationwide search, the production stated excitedly that they have found the three best Annies in the country who are Emma-Rose Blacher, Lilla Fleischmann and Caitlin Dicker.

Set in 1930s New York during The Great Depression, a brave young Annie is forced to live a life of misery and torment at Miss Hannigan’s orphanage. Determined to find her real parents, her luck changes when she is chosen to spend Christmas at the residence of the famous billionaire, Oliver Warbucks. A spiteful Miss Hannigan has other ideas and hatches a plan to spoil Annie’s search.

With its award-winning book and score, this stunning musical includes the unforgettable songs titled It’s a Hard Knock Life, Easy Street, I Don’t Need Anything But You and the eternal anthem of optimism, Tomorrow.

Tickets to this production range from R 150 to R 500. Performance times are Tuesday to Friday at 8pm, Saturday at 3pm and 8pm, and Sunday at 2pm and 5.30pm.
