Jacques and his guitar wows audiences

RANDPARK RIDGE – Jacques Lagesse has been in the music industry for several decades, he shares his experiences with the Randburg Sun.

Music is seen as a universal language and Jacques Lagesse  is definitely spreading the language where ever he goes, one song at a time.

Born and bred in Charltonville, Lagesse began pursuing a career in music soon after leaving school and landed his first job as a sound technician at the SABC.

“Those days it was easier to get a job after matric and what I learned as a sound technician really did add value to my career because I know what levels to play on,” he said.

Born to Mauritian parents, Lagesse joined his first band Rush Hour and they released an album titled Rush Hour Quiet Storm, which received plenty of radio and television airplay.

The proud father of two boys said that he is currently focused on corporate events where he plays his guitar and sings music of the swing era and other artists such as Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin, and Michael Bublé.

“My earliest influences of music were the likes of Nat King Cole, Al Jarreau and George Benson as they were my mother’s favourite and she would play them at full blast,” Lagesse said.

He added that his fondest memory was when he was in Dubai and a Sheikh asked him to stay forever. “It would have been a nice opportunity but at the time I had young children and commitments, so I chose to return home,” he explained.

The Randpark Ridge resident pointed out that his two sons both attended Randpark Primary and Randpark High schools respectively and admitted that he has lived in Randpark Ridge, for over two decades.

Lagesse described himself as a family man who has a great love of the outdoors and added that he is passionate about his country, friends, old and young people.

Lagesse will be hosting his one-man show at the Bryanston Country Club and will be performing the first Friday of the month. “After some searching, I found a sponsor for my show and the show will end at the end of the year,” he added. He said he has hopes of taking his show on the road where he will be performing at hotels and selected venues.

If anyone wants to book Lagesse for a performance, he can be contacted through his website.
