DVD killed the video star

Japanese company announced that the last-ever VCR was made last month, in July.

Believe it or not, but video machines or VCR’s are still in production, but now the last company that produced these bad boys announced that they will no longer do so.

So, goodbye Mr VCR player ā€“ you with your scratchy, unclear image. But the hours of cheap and affordable entertainment, we will dearly miss.

Funai, a Japanese company announced that the last-ever VCR will be made in the month of July. A total of 750 000 of them was still sold in 2015. A VCR player was convenient for the hours of entertainment that you could record on it, but caused a lot of frustration when you realised that someone taped Telletubbies over that last bit of Egoli.

The dear children of today will never know the joy of the sound the VCR made when putting a tape in or the heartache when your parents discovered the Lego blocks that you have placed with such care inside the little flappy door. Rest in peace dear old friend.

Do you still have a VCR player? What tapes did you watch?
