Win tickets to see Peter Pan on stage

JOBURG – Enter the competition to win tickets to the mystical world of Disney's Peter Pan presented at the Peoples Theatre.

Children all over the world know who Peter Pan is and can revel in the magic of Neverland as the Peoples Theatre presents Disney’s Peter Pan JR, a first in South Africa.

The show is directed by Jill Girard and Keith Smith, who will bring the mystic character of Peter Pan to life on stage.

Based on the book by Sir James Mathew Barrie, Peter Pan, Tinker Bell, Captain Hook, Mr Smee, the Lost Boys, Tiger Lily, as well as Wendy, John and Michael Darling will be brought to life on stage and will fire up young imaginations with their amazing adventures in Neverland.

Bridget van Oerle from Buz PR said that more than a 100 years since the play was first staged, the story of Peter Pan remained a much-loved favourite that evoked the ideal of everlasting, adventure-filled youth. “Audiences can expect fantastical animated flying sequences and thrilling enacted fight scenes, coupled with the storytelling flair, engaging musical numbers and fun interaction that audiences of all ages have come to expect from the Peoples Theatre, based at the Joburg Theatre in Braamfontein,” she said.

Phillip Schnetler from Albertsville who plays Peter Pan said that although he had previously played other characters in other plays, this was his first time playing the lead role. “What I love the most about this play is that this play enacted what children experienced and identify with. It is vibrantly alive and it is for everyone,” he said.

He urged parents to put down their cell phones and bring their children to the play as it would teach them that the world of imagination really existed for their children.

LJ Urbani from Sundowner who plays Captain Hook and Mr Darling said that he enjoyed interacting with the children who were cast into the show. “This is a great story with good characters and villains and these are the topics that children should be thinking about,” he said. Urbani explained that the play taught children how to deal with life issues through entertainment. “I am enjoying playing the villain, it’s fun to dress up and let loose especially because I play an over the top character. It’s totally fun,” he said. He explained that his favourite line from the play is when Mr Darling tells his daughter, Wendy, “Sooner or later everyone must grow up”. Urbani said that although the statement rings true children must be allowed to fully enjoy their childhood without worries.

The show will premier on 6 June until 31 July
