Fun events for your family during the Easter Holiday

JOBURG - This Easter will definitely not be boring if your are staying at home. Many activities are available in and around Johannesburg at affordable prices to entertain the entire family.

The Easter Weekend is upon us and if you are staying at home, there are many fun activities to pick and choose from that will keep your whole family happy.

Bring the kids to Silverstar Casino in Krugersdorp for the Easter playground on the square for family fun which includes rides, face painting, jumping castles, water activities, movies and a special visit from the Easter bunny. Entrance is free and is from 19 March to 3 April.

Mosaik Church in Fairland offers a special Easter programme every year. Holy Week is from 21 to 27 March which is the last week before the crucifixion. Praxis services will be held in the chapel daily at 12pm and 7pm. The Last Supper experience takes people to the last supper with food, symbols and elements from that era. It takes place on 24 March at 6.30pm.

Children can join in the Kidz Fishing Camp in Viljoenskroon. Apart from fishing they can also slip and slide their way to super fun on the supertube and join the Easter egg hunt. The camp takes place from 22 to 24 March, 11 to 13 April and 18 to 20 April. It is specifically for children from seven to 15 years of age. Call 011 610 2911.

The Ngwenya Glass Village in Muldersdrift offers a fun-filled Easter weekend from 25 to 28 March. Children can choose from a variety of activities including go-karting, candle dipping, sand art and an Easter egg hunt as well as an egg-and-spoon and sack race. Loads of prizes are up for grabs. Visitors can take part in glassblowing from 10am to 4pm every day.

Montecasino in Sandton will offer a wide variety of activities for families from 25 to 28 March. Children can enjoy an interactive fun day on the Piazza which will be transformed into a playground. Children can play on the inflatable towers, do arts and crafts, have their faces painted, and watch a magician perform magic tricks. Boys can participate in the Clamber Club with its obstacle courses and girls can join the Clamber Pamper that involves everything from nails to toes. Entrance is free.

Pop-up Easter market for the adults which includes crafts, handwork and innovative ideas. You will find everything from wire art, home decor, clothing and jewellery, stationery, baby and kid’s goods as well as market food. At Silverstar Casino on 26 and 27 March and entrance is free.

On 27 March an Easter bunny dress-up competition, egg hunt, rides, face painting, beer garden and an Easter brunch will take place at the Cradle of Humankind Visitor Centre in Maropeng. Entrance to the Maropeng exhibition will be discounted for families at R270 per family of two adults and two children. Visit www.maropeng.co.za for more information.

The Riverstone Lodge in Muldersdrift is hosting an Easter Sunday Braai on 27 March. There will be an Easter Egg hunt for the kids starting at 12.00pm. Email sales@riverstonelodge.co.za for bookings.

On 27 March a variety of restaurants will be offering a special Easter lunch. The Hertford Hotel will offer an Easter Sunday lunch. The Kloofzicht Lodge in Muldersdrift and Spa offers a lunch for R280 per person, R125 per person for children under 12 and R95 per person for children under six years old. The Glenburn Lodge and Spa offers an Easter lunch for R215 per person. Child rates are available. Askari Lodge and Spa offers a lunch for R200 person and R100 for children between six and 12. Children under five eat for free.

The Easter bunny will hand out Easter eggs along with the Bird Gardens Mascot, Lucky Liquorice, Jelly Tot man and the Oros man at Montecasino Bird Gardens. The Flights of Fantasy bird show takes to the stage at 11am, 1pm and 3pm daily on Easter weekend. With an Easter treasure hunt on 27 March. For the past 57 years, every Easter Sunday morning at 5.30am, members of local churches from the Baptist, Dutch Reformed, Full Gospel, Presbyterian, Roman Catholic, Beracha Pentecostal, Triumphant Christian Church, Kingsway Ministries and the Salvation Army have gathered next to the Brixton Tower to celebrate the Resurrection of Jesus Christ. Afrikaans singer, Juanita du Plessis will finish off the Easter celebrations with a show at Silverstar Casino on 1 April. She will be joined on stage by Ruan and Franja du Plessis. Tickets priced at R130 are available from www.silverstar.co.za, the Silverstar Box Office or Computicket.
