Comedian on many platforms

NORTH RIDING – Sans Moonsamy says that although his strength is comedy, he wants to be an actor of all genres.

He is the very funny Sylvan in the movie, Vir Altyd. Although he is known as a comedian in various movies, TV-shows and on stage where his famous accents take centre stage, he also plays serious roles like Dr Patel in the soapie, Generations. Sans Moonsamy from North Riding said that as an actor you should be able to do it all.

Moonsamy was born 37 years ago in Durban and attended the University of KwaZulu-Natal where he studied drama. “My biggest love is being on stage. I come from a performing family. My granny was a music teacher.” He said that he always sang in competitions and played instruments. “I wrote my first play when I was nine, it was terrible,” laughed Moonsamy.

This actor believes that humour in South Africa is much needed. “We are facing many difficulties in this country, we can still laugh at ourselves. Laughter is not only an emotion, but also has chemicals that makes you happier. I’m not only funny, I’m deep,” joked Moonsamy.

The comedian is expecting a baby boy with his girlfriend Keru Kisten in March. He is also the father of three-year-old twins. “I played opposite my girlfriend in Love Guru. It is a live show and we shot the last episode two weeks ago. Luckily, our gynecologist was in the audience in case of an early birth,” said Moonsamy in a joke. He said that he loved being in Blits Patrollie alongside other big names. He also was in Bakgat 3.

Apart from being an actor, Moonsamy got into the director’s chair for his film, Twelve that will be released this year. The film is a drama/thriller about 12 men who take advantage of 12 women. One of the women returns to take revenge. “This film was one of the most difficult, incredible and emotional experiences of my life, but so rewarding,” said Moonsamy.

Moonsamy said that he is busy living his dream. “I don’t want to put a cap on myself. I would most likely want to become a Hollywood director,” concluded Moonsamy.
