Strength in art

FERNDALE – Gym has enormous mural painted at its entrance to inspire members.

Body Conscious Gym enlisted the help of some special artists to create a huge wall mural that would inspire its members to exercise harder.

Keys Communication co-owner Kabelo Kale said that the communications company prides itself with its use of high definition airbrushing. With this form of painting they can paint on any surface and ensure that it can last through whatever conditions.

Marcelle Collison, co-owner of the gym and IFBB athlete, said that they wanted artwork that represented what the gym stood for.

“We wanted something that would set us apart from all the other gyms out there,” said Collison. “We are not like your average gyms, we are geared toward your hardcore athletes, power lifters and the likes.”

Keys Communication created an impressive black and white mural depicting a muscular athlete, with the phrase ‘Refuse to accept mediocrity’ at the entrance to the gym. Three artists worked for eight hours to paint the mural.

Collison added that more murals will be painted on the inside of the gym. She divulged that in May there will be the annual Arnold Sports Festival and those who train for the event need to be highly motivated.

“We want the gym walls to represent those who train here, we want passionate quotes and art that will motivate the athletes to do their level best,” said Collison.
