Fierce need to sing

The sensational singer/songwriter Danielle Zinn (26) is a talent to be in awe of. The magnetic performer has the sheer determination to fulfill her life-long dream to sing.

The musical savant wrote her first song at seven years old and never put the pen down since then. Her desire to sing was nearly put on the back burner when she thought to impress her parents with possibly becoming a lawyer. However, the Bryanston resident decided to stay devoted to her dreams.

The Bon Iver inspired musician studied music composition at AFDA and after completing her course decided to travel to the United States of America for six months. It was at an open mic night in a pub in Canada where she sang in front of an audience for the first time. Nervous, excited and anxious though she was, she enchanted the crowd with her amazing vocals.

When she came back to SA, the self-taught guitarist decided to concentrate more on her music. Knowing that she is singing her way into an industry centred around looks – she plans to break the mould media has set.

She wishes to bring the true essence of music back to where it should be, being purely about the music.

Being solely invested in achieving her musical goals, Zinn has released her debut extended play (EP), Gravity, on iTunes – her first of many masterpieces.

Though she might think every song on her EP is great, her two favourite songs are Faith and Reckoning.

“I cannot believe I wrote Faith – its cinematic and orchestral elements always evoke a deeper love for it,” said Zinn.

She added that her song Reckoning is about the sheer tenacity of someone who has heard people say they will never do something and turnaround and accomplish it.

The daughter of a lawyer and financier, Zinn credits her will to succeed to her supportive family and girlfriend for encouraging her and always believing in her.
