‘Dis ek, Anna’ – number three at local Box Office

JOBURG–- The Afrikaans movie, 'Dis ek, Anna' has landed the number three spot at the local Box Office after its opening weekend.

The Afrikaans film Dis ek, Anna (It’s me, Anna) is positioned at number three at the local Box Office after scoring the highest per print average of all the films released on 23 October.

The film released on 39 prints had 15 592 attendees and earned a gross of R773 160 over just three days.

Dis ek, Anna had a stronger opening than Charlize Theron’s Monster which made R655 184; Die Wonderwerker R733 391; Kite Runner R274 858 and Tsotsi which earned R526 275.

Times Media Films general manager Driki van Zyl said they are thrilled with the Box Office figures.

“The film performed exceptionally well, despite having to compete with the Rugby World Cup, and Currie Cup Final on 24 October. Times Media Films is proud to be distributing this remarkable film and the strong showing at the Box Office this past weekend, is proof that audiences want to see quality and thought-provoking films from local filmmakers,” said Van Zyl.

The film – based on the best-selling, fictional and autobiographical novels Ek, Anna and Die Staat teen Anna Bruwer is produced by Palama Productions Niel van Deventer and helmed by Sara Blecher.

The film stars local actors including Charlené Brouwer, Marius Weyers, Nicola Hanekom, Morné Visser, Izel Bezuidenhout, Eduan van Jaarsveldt, Drikus Volschenk, Ilse Klink, Elton Andrew, Elize Cawood and Dawid Minnaar.

The film was awarded Best Film, Best Director and Best Actor at the annual Silverskermfees.

It will now head to Europe for a series of screenings at international film festivals.
