The fascinating high-altitude thriller, Everest, makes its mark on the big screens at Ster-Kinekor nationwide, including Cradlestone Mall.

Background: Everest is based on a true story of two disastrous expeditions in 1996, which killed 19 climbers when a severe snowstorm hit the mountain.

Plot: This 2015 survival film is produced by Baltasar Kormakur, written by William Nicholson and Simon Beaufoy, and it shows a group of dedicated family men with only one woman starting their journey to the summit of Mount Everest.

Before reaching their destination, the climbing expedition was challenged beyond any limits by a severe snow storm and high-freezing temperature, killing some of the climbers.

However, the remaining climbers were determined to fulfil their dreams, they continued with their journey to the summit of the mountain.

And the bodies of those who died, still remain there today.

The Good: Inspiring and touching, the movie proves that when a person has a dream, nothing on earth is impossible. Some made it back alive, some died after fulfilling their dreams of climbing the highest mountain.

The Bad: Even thought it so fascinating, it makes one move to the edge of one’s seat unaware and cry, knowing that it is a true story is deeply emotional.

Also, there is no happy ending because the dead climbers’ bodies just disappeared without a trace, and have until today not been fully recovered.

Verdict: If I were to chose from the best movies to watch repeatedly, I would add Everest to the list. I’m encouraging hopeless people to watch it, it motivates.
